Responsibly Preserving Beluga Sturgeons for the Future Generations

Ukraine International Aquatics Research is dedicated to studying and preserving sturgeon species in the Black and Caspian Seas. Co-founded by Ukraine and the US, we aim to publish accurate research and perform sustainable conservation efforts.

Going Beyond Aquatics Research

We do more than study endangered sturgeon species while being respectful of local natural resources. One of our priorities is to help these fishes improve their population. That is why we strive to ensure our hatchery can be a new home for them to reproduce.

To do this, we collect their eggs through a humane harvesting method and raise them until they are ready to be released into the wild. Unfertilized sturgeon roes will be separated from the fertilized ones and made into high-quality caviar.

Current Situation

Due to one of Russia’s attacks on Ukraine, our research and conservation facility in Kherson was destroyed. Our focus now is to build a new space for our work, so we can get back to studying and preserving endangered sturgeon species sooner.
